Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice receives £17,000 donation
VolkerRail continues its support for local Children’s hospice Bluebell Wood, with a donation of £17,731, following another successful year of Close Calls
VolkerRail’s Close Call campaign is a longstanding safety improvement scheme that encourages employees to report potential safety concerns. All close calls undergo a review, and any necessary actions are implemented to prevent a potential accident or incident from occurring.
For nearly a decade VolkerWessels UK has pledged to donate £1 to charity for every close call raised, with 50% of all money raised annually donated to a charity of choice. The remaining 50% is distributed to each VolkerWessels UK business, to donate to a charity of their choosing; proportionate to the number of close calls raised. Additionally, VolkerRail donates a further £1 for every close call that required action to close out.
VolkerRail launched the campaign in 2007, and has supported Bluebell Wood since then, resulting in over £100,000 being donated to the charity.
In 2024, 40,647 close calls were raised across VolkerWessels UK, 17,364 by VolkerRail.
Today’s cheque, presented to the charity, includes £9,049 from VolkerRail and £8,682 from VolkerWessels UK.
Stuart Webster-Spriggs, VolkerRail HSQES director, said: “‘We are immensely proud to continue our long-standing support for this incredible charity. Bluebell Wood provides extraordinary care to so many children and their families, who benefit from their compassion and professionalism. By raising much needed funds through close calls we all benefit; by making our workplace safer and supporting a service that helps make our community a better place.”
I would like to thank everyone at VolkerRail for their generous donation. I am incredibly proud to be part of the hospice and can already see the impact that wonderful organisations like VolkerRail have in helping us provide the best support to local families. Their continued support means so much to families and knowing that we can continue to support those who are facing the unimaginable, inspires us all. Thank you so much for helping us give families the support they need.
