Over the last ten years, MPT has been expanding the Metrolink system to become the UK’s largest tram network, running to over 100km and 99 stops.

The new 5.5km Trafford Park Line route was officially opened seven months ahead of schedule, in April 2020, offering sustainable transport links to some of Greater Manchester’s busiest visitor destinations. The new line also runs through Trafford Park, Europe’s largest trading estate and home to more than 1,400 businesses, employing over 33,000 people.

The team was also highly commended in the Project of the Year Award <€50m for its work on the Crumpsall Stop enhancement project, and in the Project of the Year Award >€50m for the Trafford Park Line extension.

Andy Pritchard, project leader, said: “We are immensely proud to receive an award from the Global Light Rail community. It is a fantastic achievement for the project, and is testament to the hard work that has been done alongside our supply chain partners.

“The use of modern methods of construction has really allowed for greater efficiencies and safer civil engineering works to take place, allowing us to deliver the project early. I thank everyone who has been involved in this project over the years; it’s great to be recognised for such an achievement.”
