Success at the 2024 SHELT Awards

It was a double praise for VolkerRail, as our Building Relationships on Site (BROS) campaign and the VolkerRailStory joint venture both received recognition at the 2024 annual SHELT Awards.

Hosted by Network Rail, The SHELT Awards recognise the achievements made across the North West and Central, and Eastern regions.

Our BROS campaign aims to educate site based operatives on personal indicators and how to recognise them in themselves and others, as well as the skills needed to have “comfortable” mental health conversation, and was recognised with this year’s Mental Health Award, for its efforts in promoting safe environments for mental health conversations.

The VolkerRailStory joint venture was also praised for its achievements in social value throughout the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade works, and presented with a highly commended certificate in the Railway That Helps Communities Thrive Award.

Commenting, Vikky Goodwin, lead mental health champion and creator of BROS, said: “It's always amazing when others see the value in promoting and progressing mental health. Anyone who knows me knows this campaign is my pride and joy, and events such as these, which allow me to raise  its awareness, are just fabulous.”

Commenting, Kimberley Booth, environmental manager on the Hope Valley Upgrade project said: “I am delighted to see the team highly commended for its commitments to social value, demonstrating how lasting positive impacts can be created when the community are embedded within project delivery.

“It has been especially regarding to see these impacts reflected in the many positive comments received from stakeholders engaged, following the significant time dedicated by our team to volunteering, school engagement, and further initiatives.”
