VolkerRail appoints a new Safety and Compliance Director

Stuart Webster-Spriggs has recently been appointed as the new safety and compliance director for VolkerRail in the UK.

Stuart has been working for VolkerRail since 2001; before his promotion he progressed from quality assurance officer, to safety and compliance manager for VolkerRail's Specialist Businesses division, where he became instrumental in implementing a robust and effective integrated safety management system.

Stuart will be responsible for further developing VolkerRail's safety and compliance capability, whilst ensuring the continued service of professional occupational health and safety to VolkerRail site teams, including railway operational safety, engineering, quality and environmental management.

Stuart said: "I'm delighted to be given this opportunity and would like to thank my colleagues who have shown me their full backing and support.

"Along with the continued commitment to the 365 day challenge and VolkerRail's ‘Take Two' health and safety principle, I intend to strengthen the capabilities of the team to enhance VolkerRail's Integrated Management System and build upon the well established reputation that already exists.

"We will continue to focus on employee engagement; this holds the key to success in achieving a ‘mature' culture where we all exhibit an ‘above the line' embedded attitude to health and safety, assurance and the environment."

Steve Cocliff, managing director of VolkerRail, also commented on the recent appointment: "Stuart has shown great dedication to the company over the last decade and his abilities to implement new safety management is evident in his previous roles. We are confident that Stuart will be able to take VolkerRail's safety record to an even higher level than it is today. I wish Stuart every success and welcome him to our senior management team."

Stuart will be working with Adrian Shah-Cundy, head of HSEQS at VolkerWessels UK, in developing group wide initiatives, skills and best practice for implementation across the UK.
