A Beaver tamper on a heritage railway

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

We helped reopen a section of track between Wirksworth and Duffield that had been closed due to a landslip that occurred in October 2023.

Across three days, our S&C Beaver tamper tamped 1,500 metres of track along the new alignment.

The tamper was transported to site via road, due to the site's location, and was on tracked in less that 40 minutes.

Before arriving to site, volunteers at the heritage railway had already installed drainage, slewed and diverted the track, and laid 500 tonnes of ballast in preparation for reopening the line.

The line was successfully opened just one week later, in time for the heritage railway’s ‘Back to the 40’s’ event.
