Loughborough bridge installation

Our Kirow crane team helped replace two bridges in Loughborough alongside our sister company VolkerLaser. The structures were in poor condition and needed to be removed due to significant section loss and corrosion, with both structures having been subject to a speed restriction.

Due to the location of the heritage railway our Kirow 810 had to travel by road on a lorry for the first time. The crane was loaded onto the back of the lorry at our depot in Scunthorpe and once onsite it was on-tracked in order to complete the works.

Our team successfully installed the new bridge precast concrete decks and edge beams using the 810 Kirow crane in a joint team operation between VolkerLaser, a 130-ton mobile crane contractor and Great Central Railway’s (GCR) rail wagons. Following the successful installation of the precast units, the team completed further works to the bridge deck by installing the bridging joint plate, and filling sections with concrete to form the bridge deck.

Both bridges were completed within three days due to the collaborative working efforts of all the people involved.
