York depot

We were appointed by VolkerFitzpatrick to install twelve 610mm diameter circular hollow section (CHS) piles at Siemens rail depot in York. The piles were needed to provide additional support to a retaining wall being built by VolkerFitzpatrick, allowing their team to extend the depot roads and install two new buffer stops.

We installed the 610mm diameter piles, spliced 13m in length, to a depth of 5m and 8m. This created a 13m section that provided the full structural support needed for the next phase of depot modifications.

Due to the location of the piles – within five meters of operational railway – the team worked against several site constraints, which included operational working at night within the depot, and working adjacent to the East Coast Mainline.

As our Piling division has the competencies needed to plan, approve and manage any line open (ALO) requirements on site, the team produced and managed all the requirements needed to work adjacent to the live infrastructure, by providing ALO planner site co-ordinator and manager roles.
